- Sender, date, time, and timezone on every message — so a reviewer can follow who said what, when, across time zones and years.
- Cover statement naming the participants, the platform and source (your official Meta export), and the exact date coverage.
- Complete-thread and gap disclosure. If you file a dated excerpt — which is normal and appropriate for USCIS — the document says so plainly, and gaps are marked rather than hidden.
- Translator’s certificate slot (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)). If any of your messages are in another language, USCIS requires a full English translation plus the translator’s signed statement. ChatExhibit includes the properly worded template page so it isn’t forgotten.
- Letter-size, text-searchable PDF — clean for upload or print. USCIS prefers printed or uploaded PDFs, not flash drives.
- SHA-256 hash manifest of your source files, printed in the PDF, so you can later show which export files the document came from.

ChatExhibit reads Instagram’s official data export today. Messenger conversations come out of the same Meta export, so support for them is on the roadmap — but it isn’t built, and we won’t put a date on it we can’t keep. If your relationship evidence lives in Messenger rather than Instagram DMs, leave your email and we’ll write once, when there’s something real to report.
